Practice Area Overview
Individuals whose rights have been violated and are seeking legal representation will appreciate Betz + Blevins’ experience, approach, and integrity. Kevin Betz has worked for more than 25 years as a litigator, and is a Board Certified Trial Lawyer. Together, all the Betz + Blevins attorneys have more than 50 years of experience.
Our firm is engaged to represent individuals in employment law cases covering a wide range of issues, including wrongful termination, wage and hour disputes, employment discrimination (such as age and race, as well as sexual harassment), employment contracts, whistleblower litigation, covenants not to compete, and employment/severance agreements. We work with clients in a variety of positions, from physicians and nurses, to teachers, professors, in large industries and small, each with its own set of specific requirements and nuances.
Betz + Blevins also practices in the following areas, many of which are closely associated with the field of employment law:
Professional Licensing & Discipline
Our firm represents individuals who work in the more than 20 trades subject to regulation by Indiana’s state licensing boards, such as physicians, nurses, accountants, teachers, and attorneys. Not only do we provide representation in courts of law, but also before licensing boards, and within the processes of appealing decisions, providing proof, and on deciding the right course of action.
Civil Rights & Constitutional Law
Betz + Blevins believes that in many ways, the purpose of state and federal constitutions is to restrain these governmental jurisdictions from acting unfairly against individuals. Betz + Blevins represents clients with claims of violation of civil rights that occur in the workplace.
Appeals are a natural part of the legal process and a distinct area of focus of Betz + Blevins. Because of Kevin Betz’s background in appellate law, his two-year experience working for the Indiana Supreme Court, and his authorship of law reviews concerning the voting and disposition of Indiana Supreme Court cases, he is frequently asked to assist other law firms in pursuing appeals. If the need arises and engaged to do so, all Betz + Blevins clients receive the benefit of the firm’s appellate law skills.
Business & Commercial Law
Business and commercial law is often closely related to the field of employment law. Our business and commercial law practice largely involves contract disputes and shareholder litigation, as well as other business disputes.
As part of our complement of legal services in employment law, Betz + Blevins offers representation in class action suits. Most recently, our firm has been involved in an ERISA (Employee Retirement Income Security Act) class action as well as a wage and hour dispute class action.
Kevin Betz’s previous experience as Chief Counsel for the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) makes him uniquely qualified to represent individuals who have experienced environmental contamination of their property by another party. Additionally, Betz + Blevins provides legal counsel to corporations such as Verizon Wireless, giving guidance and opinions on property acquisition in light of environmental contamination risks and assessing liability potential.
